SUNSET CITY

Sprawled across the Island of the Goddess, Sunset City is about what one would expect from a modern city - large and bustling, with newer buildings of sleek glass standing proudly beside their lower, stone-hewn brethren echoing the storied past of a city continuing to change and reinvent itself over time. While reachable from the mainland only by ferry, the city is large enough to host its own schools, hospital, and local government, making it unnecessary for most natives to ever leave the island outside of trips and vacations. The center of the city is where it’s busiest, although there’s some small farms on the edges of the island, as well as a booming fishing industry. While only a few of the districts are outlined below, basically all the shops and amenities one could possibly want can all be found within the city. The climate is temperate, but don’t underestimate the summer heat.
Golden Parks (Residential Area)
A busy residential area with a modest number of family homes and a much higher number of apartment complexes. While not the cleanest or richest part of the city, the location is convenient for public transport via bus or even bike, and much of the current population consists of students studying away from home who need a cheap apartment to crash in between classes. This is where the player character dorms are located. Remember: trash is collected twice a week and recycling once, at 6AM sharp. Don’t be late!
Vermillion Village (Shopping District)
For all your daily necessities (and then some), look no further than the Vermillion Village district! With two competing supermarkets offering the best prices on food and produce, home goods stores galore, pet supplies stores, DIY and crafting shops, and even a discount department store featuring a bit of everything, characters will be able to find basically anything they could need here... Once they earn enough cash to afford it. Interestingly, characters will be able to find food and supplies for their animal companions at the pet store, even if said companions are not the type of creature one would normally find in this world. Huh!
Carnation Court (Food/Entertainment District)
For characters interested in a night out on the town, Carnation Court is the place to be! Located in the heart of the city, this area is flush with restaurants catering to just about every taste and diet, and a number of pubs and bars for adult guests with varying prices and vibes, some even offering entertainment by way of pinball machines, retro arcade games, and minigolf.

Younger characters need not feel left out when it comes to entertainment, either - there’s a selection of huge arcades, some specializing in older retro games and others with modern machines hooked up to the Internet with special cards to save your gaming score and profile. Karaoke rooms and bowling lanes may also be found in these establishments, along with UFO Catcher machines that can hold anything from cute plushies to boxed figurines to luxury items like fitness watches and jewelry (although somehow, these seem near impossible to get...?)

Characters who are less interested in interactive entertainment may also find movie theaters and various stage productions. There’s truly something for everyone here.
Saffron Street (Fashion District)
Once a place for spice merchants, this area of town has been almost entirely taken over by clothing stores. The main street features big brand stores that sell the hottest mainstream fashion, from your cheap basics to your sleek, high end luxury fits. Between the giant storefront signs and large window displays of perfectly posed mannequins to show off each store's most popular items, it's all too easy to get drawn in and walk out with a heavy bag and lighter wallet.

If mainstream isn't your style, Amaranth Ave may be more your speed. Branching off from Saffron Street, this narrow road is lined with tiny independent boutiques that specialize in more niche fashion sub-cultures, and during the weekends it's common to see various youths dressed up in especially extravagant coords you wouldn't find anywhere else. Items found here are pricier, but who doesn't want a unique, hand-embroidered cottagecore dress?
Byzantium Boulevard (Office District)
Unlike other parts of the city that tend to be rather crowded for space, Byzantium Boulevard has far more spacious streets and sidewalks, with many modern glass and concrete buildings mingling with older establishments made of embellished brick and stone. Government buildings can be found here, as well as the local schools and a large library with books and even videos and CDs that can be checked out with a card (assuming you have something to play them on). Interestingly, any fictional series characters may be familiar with are nowhere to be seen here, though there may be some stories that seem... familiar. They’ve already got issue 10,685 of Superb Man shelved and ready for fans!

Otherwise, this district seems to double as the financial district, so expect to see heavy traffic early in the morning and later in the evening as office workers rush to and fro from their respective workplaces.
Temple of Braphine
Doubling as a general community center, the Temple of Braphine can be found on the edge of the residential district, with a large main building surrounded by plenty of grass and trees for picnics and gatherings. Inside the temple itself, the room is divided into two major areas: the sanctuary, a raised platform from which priests and priestesses commune with followers on behalf of the goddess, and the gathering hall, where a collection of benches and chairs may be moved around easily by practitioners to face the sanctuary or each other depending on the occasion. The sanctuary itself features a throne with a covered table, symbolic of a goddess of community who partakes in conversation and meals with her followers, and it’s not uncommon for the temple to host potlucks and other such events in her honor. Offerings are often placed on the table in the sanctuary, many of them handmade foods and gifts that are ultimately donated to the needy.

While the Goddess isn’t always present, during certain events player characters may cross the threshold into the sanctuary and find her seated at her throne, although none of the native citizens seem to notice as they slip into the world of gods to meet with her.

That said, while the practitioners tend to be kind and friendly, there don’t seem to be many followers these days... Most of the devout are the elderly, and since the religion doesn’t seem to care about proselytizing, the temple has the dusty air of seeing less and less use these days even as its caretakers work to keep it in tip top shape for the sake of the goddess and her followers.
